Could a very exciting Carl Froch vs. Gennady Golovkin bout finally happen?

The retired boxer's promoter Eddie Hearn told Fight Hype that "The Cobra" asked his advice about a showdown with "Triple G." It may indicate that Froch may come out of retirement and is ready to face the unbeaten Kazakh warrior.

"Carl phoned me for my opinion on the Golovkin fight. Something burns away at Carl to get back in the ring, but as time ticks on, it becomes less and less. I think as DeGale continues his march, perhaps that can become more tempting. As the cold nights set in, he looks forward to relaxing 'round the log fire," Hearn said.

This is an interesting twist in the Froch-Golovkin drama.

In June, Golovkin is eager to have a showdown with the British boxer, whom "Triple G" described as a "proven warrior in the ring with a big punch" at the super middleweight division, Sky Sports informed. Aside from going up from middleweight to super middleweight, the Kazakh boxer is even willing to go to the U.K., Froch's territory, and stage the battle there.

In July, Froch posted on Twitter a picture of himself with a caption, teasing that he was not afraid of the unbeaten middleweight champion.

Tom Loeffler, manager of K2 Promotions who promotes "GGG," fired back with a Twitter post saying, "there's only one way to find out," hinting a challenge.

Unfortunately, the four-time world boxing champion already announced his retirement from boxing, The Guardian noted, which made the Froch vs. Golovkin battle unattainable now, unless Froch returns.

Golovkin's next move

Golovkin seemed to have moved forward from his dream fight with Froch, as Loeffler announced that his fighter is focused on unifying the entire middleweight division, Boxing Scene noted. Less than two weeks later, a fight against the Canadian boxer David Lemieux is sealed, per another article on Boxing Scene.

"GGG" crushed Lemieux via an eighth round stoppage on Oct. 7 at the Madison Square Garden in New York, BBC Sport announced, securing his World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization crowns. Aside from that, he also captured the International Boxing Federation title from Lemieux.

Yet, Golovkin's journey does not stop there. Being the World Boxing Council's interim champion, he will face the winner of the Miguel Cotto vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez immediately. He may soon be looking in getting the World Boxing Organization belt, as hinted by a Boxing Scene report.

So, Froch may be the one waiting now before Golovkin's schedule clears up to accommodate him next.
