Hollywood actress Halle Berry is divorcing French actor and husband Olivier Martinez as the two filed their individual divorce papers earlier this week and have already released their joint statements confirming the news.

"X-Men" actress Berry and estranged husband Martinez have been married for two years and have just announced their decision to finally divorce in a joint statement. "It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce," the couple said in a joint statement on Tuesday as quoted by the NY Daily News.

The former married couple, despite their differences, are united in the interests of their son Maceo. "We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son (Maceo). We wish each other nothing but happiness in life, and we hope that you respect our, and most importantly our children's privacy, as we go through this difficult period," Berry and Martinez said as quoted by the NY Daily News.

Both cited irreconcilable differences on their divorce papers, which Berry filed Monday under the pseudonym Hal Maria. Martinez filed his divorce papers on Tuesday under his legal name and was assisted by famed divorce attorney Laura Wasser, as reported by the NY Daily News.

No further details have been released as of the moment, but what is certain is that both parties are requesting that the judge will be ordering whatever is in the best interest of their two-year-old son, the Associated Press reports.

The Associated Press further states that the filing indicates a prenuptial agreement that does not entitle Martinez to spousal support, which is in no problem especially for Berry who is also reportedly avoiding child support payments.

"Each party to equally share the cost of raising their child," the filing reads as quoted by the Associated Press.

Meanwhile, TMZ reports that the former couple "have a personality difference," a source told the publication. "They're just very, very different people. He's a very macho guy, and things just didn't jive," another source claimed.

TMZ further said that their marriage was in a rocky place, especially during the time that Martinez got caught up in the middle of the LAX controversy, where he was caught on video hitting a staff with a car seat.

Berry was previously married to former Yankee player David Justice from 1993 to 1997. After their divorce, the actress married singer Eric Benet from 2001 to 2005. Then, Berry met Martinez in 2012 on set of the film "Dark Tide."
