Stephen Curry took the spotlight anew, as he led the Golden State Warriors to a 111-95 win over the New Orleans Pelicans during their NBA Championship Ring Night on Tuesday at Oracle Arena.

Curry erupted for 40 points on 14-for-26 shooting from the field with five three-pointers, and also tallied seven assists, six rebounds and two steals for the Warriors, who were in control since the opening period.

The Warriors had a strong start, as they rallied behind the 24-point eruption of Curry in the first period, but the Pelicans managed to stay with striking distance, 39-35, after the first 12 minutes of the game.

However, Golden State took control again in the second quarter and never looked back from then on, preventing the injury-riddled Pelicans squad from mounting a comeback en route to their 16-point victory.

Festus Ezeli also had an impressive debut with 13 points and four rebounds in 17 minutes. Andrew Bogut posted 12 points on 6-for-6 shooting to go along with five rebounds and five assists before exiting with an injury, while Draymond Green added 10 points and eight rebounds.

The other half of Splash Brothers, Klay Thompson, had a quiet season opener, tallying just nine points on 3-for-8 shooting with seven turnovers and no three-pointers. However, his quiet night was hardly noticed, as the Warriors leaned on their fluid offensive executions.

The Warriors had 29 assists on 41 field goals and shot 20-for-22 from the free-throw line. They shot 42.7 percent from the field with nine three-pointers, and also tallied seven steals and eight blocks for the entire match.

Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis had a disappointing season opener as he started 1-for-16 from the field before finishing with 18 points to go along with six rebounds and three blocks.

Ish Smith, who was acquired from waiver wire before the season started, added 17 points on top of nine assists and three steals, while Eric Gordon racked up 14 points, four rebounds and four assists for the Pelicans, who committed 18 turnovers for the entire match.

The Pelicans played without projected starters Omer Asik, Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans.
