Russell Brand is ripping ex-wife Katy Perry's over her "vapid, vacuous and plastic" lifestyle.

Long regarded as one of showbiz's most unlikely couples during their time together, Brand split from the pop princess after just 14 months of matrimony. According to the Daily Mail, in the new documentary "A Second Coming," Brand claims he had started to have doubts about their staying power even before they became man and wife.

The 40-year-old comedian recalled visiting Africa in 2010 for Comic Relief and knowing by the time that he had returned to the States that he was a changed man.

"I'm associated with the very thing I detest: vapid, vacuous, plastic, constructed, mindless celebrity," Brand reflects in the film. "That's the very sea we're swimming in, 'Oh, who's he?" ... "He's married to Katy Perry.'"

Later, Brand shares with a friend about his fiery then-spouse, "It's definitely good I'm with someone I love. But it's not a resolution to anything spiritual. This is my suspicion, that at some point, to be happy, I'm going to have to walk away."

Brand infamously split from his wife by sending her a text message, and soon after that Perry lamented to The Telegraph he hadn't communicated with her since.

The two met in 2009 on the set of the comedy production "Get Him to the Greek." Later that year, they again crossed paths at the MTV Video Music Awards and soon began dating. They married in a Hindu ceremony about a year later.

In her autobiography, "Katy Perry: Part of Me," the songstress tearfully reflects, other than their busy and often conflicting schedules, part of the couple's biggest problems stemmed from her not feeling the two were ready to have children together.

Since their split, Perry has been romantically linked to perennial on-again, off-again boyfriend John Mayer.
