A new multiplayer trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End shows a host of exciting new features that look to instill online matches with the same fast-paced, cinematic action the single-player mode provides.

Though the Uncharted series has traditionally focused on its single-player campaign, the new trailer from Naughty Dog shows that the developers put an immense amount of effort toward multiplayer as well.

As in previous installments, it looks as if players will be able to assume the role of characters both past and present, fighting to the death in a frantic gun battle, set in one of the game's numerous scenic locales.

Uncharted 4 brings two new additions that will truly change things up this time around: power-ups and sidekicks.

In the case of the power-ups, Naughty Dog clearly wanted to bring the supernatural elements of the series over to the multiplayer mode. According to IGN, these new "Mysticals" will give players access to powers such as the Spirit of Djinn, which turns the character into a teleporting fireball, or the Wrath of El Dorado, which unleashes a deadly sarcophagus sending specters at nearby enemies.

Not only do these new abilities give direct nods to past entries in the series, they also add a whole new layer of strategy to the multiplayer.

Another game-changer is the sidekick system, which lets players summon an AI comrade to help out in a pinch.

According to IGN, there are four sidekicks available in the beta: the Hunter, who seeks out opponents and immobilizes them in a headlock; the Savior, who provides buffs and healing; the Sniper, who gives cover fire; and the Brute, an armored soldier who decimates foes with a gatling gun.

In other news, VG247 reports that the developers are looking to add vehicles to the mix sometime after launch.

"I can tell you for ship we will not have vehicles, but it is something we're hoping to tackle in the future," lead multiplayer designer Robert Cogburn said at the Sony Paris Games Week conference.

Uncharted 4's multiplayer beta will be made available to Playstation Plus subscribes and owners of the Nathan Drake Collection on Dec. 4. The full game is set for release on March 18, 2016.
