The Kansas City Royals are one win away from their first World Series title since 1985 and their second overall. The Royals rallied in the eighth inning, scoring three runs to steal the lead and the 5-3 win over the New York Mets.

Left-handed rookie Steven Matz had a solid start for the Mets, pitching for five innings, allowing only two runs on seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Veteran Chris Young was also solid for the Royals, allowing only two runs on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts, per MLB.com.

New York started the scoring in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run from left fielder Michael Conforto. Curtis Granderson added another run with a sacrifice fly in the same inning, scoring shortstop Wilmer Flores.

The Royals answered back with a run of their own in the top of the fifth inning when Alex Gordon hit a sharp single into the outfield to score catcher Salvador Perez from second.

Conforto padded the lead for New York in the bottom of the fifth with another solo shot off reliever Danny Duffy for the 3-1 lead. The Royals cut the lead to one in the next inning when Ben Zobrist doubles to lead off the sixth. Lorenzo Cain followed it up with a single to make the score 3-2. Mets manager Terry Collins removed Matz from the game and the battle of the bullpen started.

Jon Niese and Bartolo Colon pitched a perfect while Luke Hochevar did the same for the Royals. Addison Reed also pitched a perfect seventh inning for the Mets as well as the Royals' Ryan Madson. The Royals rally started in the top of the eighth when Tyler Clippard allowed two walks after the first out.

He was immediately removed for closer Jeurys Familia to protect a one-run lead with two on and one out in the eighth. Eric Hosmer grounds into second base but NLCS hero Daniel Murphy misplayed the ball for the error, allowing Zobrist to score and tie the game at 3-3.

Mike Moustakas followed it up with single in the direction of Murphy again to bring Cain home for the 4-3 lead. Hosmer moves to third on the play and scored on a single by Perez to double the Royals lead. Kansas City used closer Wade Davis for a six-out save and he delivered, allowing only two hits with two strikeouts.

The Royals will look to close out the Mets on Game 5, November 1. Edinson Volquez will start for Kansas City facing Matt Harvey, "The Dark Knight" of New York, per MLB.com.
