As Presidential hopeful Marco Rubio gets more media attention for his anti-Cuban statements and his record of absences in the Senate, the camera has been focusing on the candidate’s photogenic former NFL cheerleader wife.

According to The New York Post, Jeanette Rubio married her husband in 1998. The couple has four children.

In his memoir “An American Son,” Rubio mentioned his wife’s initial displeasure at his entering politics. “My political career had deprived her of the settled, predictable family life she longed for,” wrote Rubio.

In a 2012 interview with CBS, the couple revealed that Jeanette, however uninterested in politics she might have once been, was in fact instrumental in her husband’s decision to stay in the game.

Admitting that she is not “political person,” Jeanette said she told her husband that he needed to stick to his senate campaign. “He really wanted to do something, to make a difference. And so, therefore, once we got on that road we’re going to stick to it,” she said.

The candidate’s wife, although obviously offering her husband much moral support, has made it clear that she is content to stay in the background while he strives to lead the Unites States.

“I’m used to it, but it’s not easy,” she said, adding, “It’s like being a single mom.”

USA Today reports Jeanette, aside from being a onetime calendar model, has worked for Norman Braman’s charitable foundation.

In an interview with Politico, Jeanette revealed herself to be fully focused on creating a balanced life for her children. Following this feeling, she chooses not to be out before the cameras. “I’m not pushing myself out there. I need to be with [the] kids just to give them that balance,” she said. “If he’s out there, I feel like I have to be here for them, to give them that reality.”

Aside from her commitment to her kids, she says that being in the public eye does not appeal to her because she is simply shy.
