In the upcoming episode of “Scandal,” Olivia (Kerry Washington) goes to drastic measures to keep President Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) from going through an impeachment.

A teaser for Episode 7 of Season 5, titled "Even the Devil Deserves a Second Chance," shows that in order to help out her lover, Olivia has to let her murderous father Rowan Pope (Joe Morton) out of prison.

Olivia is then informed that the plan now is to find her father and put a bullet through his head.

In an interview with Deadline, 68-year-old Morton, who plays the murderous father figure on the series, said he had no idea how his character was actually going to get out of prison.

“On the surface, it looks like given who Rowan / Eli is, to be in jail for extortion or for embezzlement seems like something that might be easy for him to get out of, but we’ll see,” he said. “Who knows what will come out of the mind of Shonda Rhimes.”

Morton also admitted he was a fan of the series before he was on it.

“I just loved what I saw,” he said, “I loved the way it was written, the way it was directed.”

Morton's admiration led him to wonder if there was a way he himself could get on the show. Before he even had a chance to talk to his representation about "Scandal," showrunners reached out to him.

The veteran actor of such 1990s classics as “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” and “Lone Star” praised Rhimes' ability to tackle touchy social issues like police violence and the abuse of women in the military.

“Well, she’s an amazing writer,” he said, “and to help craft the kinds of monologues and the kinds of stories that she puts together -- it’s very courageous.”

The next episode of “Scandal” airs Thursday, Nov. 5 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
