The Vivian Hills, Alabama, police said a boy that had been missing for 13 years was located in Ohio this week.

WOIO-TV reports that 18-year-old Julian Hernandez was found living with his father in Cleveland. Julian was reported missing in August 2002. The then 5 year old was living with his mother near Birmingham when it is suspected that he was abducted by his father Bobby Hernandez.

According to an archived missing child poster from the Charley Project, Bobby Hernandez had agreed to drive Julian to preschool one morning. Instead, the father emptied his bank account and took the child away on the road with some packed toys and clothing. Police said it is believed the father abducted the boy due to a custody dispute.

On Oct. 30, the FBI's Cleveland Division was tipped that a teenager living in the city could be a missing child from Alabama. Authorities soon confirmed the teen was Julian Hernandez.

According to authorities, Julian was unaware that he had been abducted.

The connection was initially made when Julian, living under an assumed name, tried to apply for college. After realizing the boy's Social Security number and name didn't match, the school counselor discovered that Julian was listed in the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children database.

"We applaud Julian Hernandez for his courage in taking the first steps to find answers about who he is," the center said in a statement, via the Washington Post.

Bobby Hernandez was arrested and charged in Ohio with connection to the abduction. He is also accused of providing false information for an Ohio state identification card in 2012.

"We are in the process of getting charges on him and when that happens, when he is adjudicated in Ohio, then he will be extradited back to Jefferson County," said Vestavia Hills Police Lt. Johnny Evans.
