True Detective's first season is over and yet fans are still raving and asking questions about what really happened to Marty and Rust. If you haven't watched the season finale, be careful because there are plenty of spoilers here. The finale appears to be a meticulous mystery that was carefully crafted to leave the viewers wanting more. However, the wait time is unclear as the official release is held up by a major casting change that sees both main actors leaving the show.

The scene begins with a new villain, Errol Childress, inside a haunting building with VHS tapes, an equally creepy partner, a dog, and naturally, a dead body. The scene cuts to Marty Hart and Rust Cohle as they interrogate Steve Geraci, their initial suspect in the murders. The scenes play around the initial murders but eventually lead them to Errol and his House of Horrors. It turns out that Errol's father owned the house with the bright green paint, the same color as the paint found on the first victim's ears. The duo manages to get inside the house and there they discover all kinds of sick mementos and items left by countless other victims. The mood here is something like Silence of the Lambs in terms of suspense and horror.

After a protracted chase scene, the two heroes struggle with Errol, who stabs Cohle in the stomach and throws a hammer axe into Hart's chest before Cohle finally kills Errol by shooting him in the head. Sirens wail and the police arrive as though on cue. Marty and Russ both go to the hospital, each nursing their own wounds. Their friendship is renewed and good wins the battle over evil.

While most fans are left wanting for more, there are plenty of questions that the series has left unanswered. There are questions about how Errol was able to lure countless victims into his lair and become part of his cult. Viewers also want to know how Marty's daughter managed to know so much about the crimes. While the ending leaves questions unanswered, the two heroes did finally accept who they were and became true partners.
