Philippines and Yemen will resume their campaign in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying tournament, as they are set to collide on Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.

One team is looking to keep their chances of advancing to the next round of the qualifying tournament alive, while the other squad wants to play the spoiler's role.

The Philippine national football team, known as the Azkals, had a promising start in the tournament. They won their first two matches, but they were not able to sustain the momentum and are now on the verge of bidding goodbye to their 2018 FIFA World Cup hopes.

The Azkals are coming off a disappointing 2-0 away loss to Bahrain in their previous match last month, which came less than a week after holding North Korea to a goalless draw in Pyongyang. Before their matches against North Korea and Bahrain, they also took a humbling 1-5 loss to Uzbekistan.

Philippines coach Thomas Dooley pointed out that his players should play with sense of urgency, knowing that they should win to keep their chances. The Azkals are currently in third place in Group H behind Uzbekistan and North Korea. Only the top team in each group and the four best second placers will advance to the next round.

"Obviously this is a game that we have to win," Dooley told reporters via Philippine Daily Inquirer. "It should push every single one to know how important this game is. If we lose, we're out."

The Azkals are going to play without two of their top players -- team captain Phil Younghusband for getting two yellow cards and goalkeeper Neil Etheridge who sustained a hamstring injury. Germany-based Stephan Schrock will wear the captain's armband for the Azkals on Thursday and he is eager to lead his team.

"I'm happy and very proud," Schrock said of playing the team captain's role via CNN. "It's the highest honor you can get to be a team captain of a nation. I'm very excited to represent the Philippines again, as a captain."

On the other hand, Yemen will be playing for pride, as they have already lost the chance of advancing to the next round. Yemen lost in their first five games, but Dooley said that they have no room for complacency because their opponents are determined to get back at them after losing, 2-0, in their first encounter.
