Philip Seymour Hoffman died following an accidental drug overdose in February 2014, making the forthcoming "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2" his final appearance onscreen.

According to USA Today, the Oscar-winning actor had a small palate of films that had not been released at the time of his death. The others have already been released, officially making the next film in the "Hunger Games" franchise the end of Hoffman's movie career.

At the time of his death, he still had eight days left of a 55-day production schedule.

Fans of the series knew Hoffman as the man who played key rebel leader Plutarch Heavensbee, a central character in the franchise following the "Catching Fire" installment, the second film of the series.

Although Hoffman will still be appearing in the film in key scenes, his death made him unavailable for others that director Francis Lawrence had planned for him.

"I regret to have that kind of label of it being his last film. Because obviously, there's not quite enough of him in it," Lawrence told USA Today. "I would have liked his role to be larger."

At the time of production, Lawrence said that he allowed time for his franchise stars to grieve on set, temporarily filming with half-days and with no extras, before gradually bringing the rest of the crew back for the shoot.

Franchise star Jennifer Lawrence, who plays protagonist Katniss Everdeen, recalled that stage of production and what she went through after news of Hoffman's death.

"It took a week when I wasn't waking up and having to remember [Hoffman] was gone. We all suffered that together," the young star said.

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2" premieres in theaters on Nov. 20.
