The elite boxing trainer Freddie Roach is eyeing a knockout win for Puerto Rican champ Miguel Cotto against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Roach wants his boxer to retain his World Boxing Council middleweight throne via an impressive stoppage victory against the young Mexican warrior for another reason -- to lure the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. out of retirement, Boxing Scene noted, citing his statement with Bernardo Osuna of ESPN. Mayweather reportedly faced both fighters and he emerged triumphant in both accounts via a decision.

Thus, the boxing trainer is aiming for what Mayweather was not able to do, which is to knock out the younger "Canelo" when he had the chance. Roach thinks this manner of defeating "Canelo," who is a decade younger than Cotto, may pique the interest of "The Money" for a Mayweather vs. Cotto rematch.

"I really want [Cotto] to win impressively though. Because if we knock this guy out and Mayweather couldn't. ... Miguel told me one time 'Freddie, if you would have trained me for that fight I would have knocked this guy out.' And I would really like to see that happen. I think the better we look in this fight, the better chance we have to get Floyd Mayweather -- if he comes out of retirement, which I think he will," Roach told Osuna.

Aside from his boxing mentor, several boxers are already placing their bets on Cotto, including the undefeated featherweight warrior Julian Ramirez. "El Camaron" shares on Fight Hype that he is a long-time fan of the WBC champ and believes that Cotto will win the title fight against "Canelo." Still, he also acknowledges that it is still a "50/50" fight between the two, but he states that if the older boxer survives beyond six rounds, he will successfully defend his crown via a decision. Ramirez even predicted that the 35-year-old boxer is on his road to fight "The Money" next after managing to crush Alvarez this Saturday.

Mayweather will not face Cotto or Alvarez again?

Even if Mayweather decides to return to fighting, he may unlikely have a bout against Cotto or "Canelo," per a separate Boxing Scene article.

"Are you just getting into the Floyd Mayweather business? You should know that I beat Canelo, Pacquiao and Cotto. Ain't none of them my 49th fight, and not interested in them or a 50th fight," Mayweather stated in September.
