The frist trailer has been released for "Gods of Egypt," a new epic action-adventure film from director Alex Proyas.

While the trailer features CGI-intensive action and flashy battle scenes, some articles about the film have pointed out that it may not be entirely accurate to its setting, both for the presence of divine characters and the fact that all of the actors seem to be white.

According to Deadline, the film takes place in ancient Egypt, blending mythology and reality, in a world where real people interact with the gods they worship. The plot depicts an epic battle between these gods, with one side fighting to save humanity from enslavement by the other.

The film follows a mortal man named Bek (Brenton Thwaites) who is thrust into the struggle to save mankind from extinction.

The god Set (Gerard Butler) has assumed control of Egypt, threatening humans and the gods who would protect them. Bek aligns himself with Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) to mount a resistance against Set. The battle takes place on many stages, as the characters travel between Earth, the heavens and the afterlife.

Although the film tries its best to blend mythology with a historically accurate setting, it is clearly a fictional account of a fantasy universe.

Still, though thousands of years passed and no clear evidence remains of the exact racial makeup of the ancient society, it is generally accepted that the Egyptians were closer racially to their North African neighbors than modern Caucasians. However, the film features an overwhelming abundance of white men in the primary Egyptian roles, which could generate a similar negative reaction to that faced by Ridley Scott's "Exodus: Gods and Kings" last year for its casting.

"Gods of Egypt" is set for release on Feb. 26, 2016.
