Famed gymnast Shawn Johnson recently opened up about the emerging weight issue that a lot of women are experiencing. After months of silence and denying that she battled with eating disorders, Johnson now says she had.

Talking with Yahoo! Health, the 2008 Olympics winner revealed that she had a rough journey with her body and weight. "I've kind of gone through the gamut when it comes to health," she told the publication.

"I've hit lows with -- I don't want to say diagnosed eating disorders -- but eating disorders. And then I've gone the other way, where I've rejected fitness," she added. Furthermore, Johnson revealed how she overcame her diagnosis. "[I've] kind of gone through the whole education system, all the nutritionists, and now I'm finally healthy."

The revelation came after Johnson previously denied that she was battling an eating disorder in a previous interview with Reuters. "I never did, I swear on everything on that," Johnson said back in 2012.

"I was luckily strong enough to not fall into any of that. The mental part of it can be harder because I kept everything to myself. I was six percent body fat and I still thought I had to change something. That is so wrong. It's scary and so many girls go through it and they shouldn't," she added.

However, right now, besides her recent wedding preparations with boyfriend Andrew East, who proposed to the famed female athlete in July, Johnson is reportedly busy with her healthy living website The Body DepartmentE! News reports.

Johnson reveals that her website is different from the other health sites as it is more encouraging. "For me, it was kind of like, what if I could build a place for these girls to go that was just as cool, but there is no negative association? It was health, and beauty, and fun, and 'you're perfect the way you are - but here are some workouts.' And it kind of took off," she told Yahoo! News.

E! News noted that Johnson earned four gold medals in the 2008 Olympics and three world titles in Beijing. Johnson also won "Dancing with the Stars" back in 2009. In 2010, Johnson unfortunately tore her ACL from skiing, and, after 2012, the athlete finally retired from gymnastics.

Meanwhile, Johnson just have a few words of advice to women like her: "The most important thing that I would have wished had been ingrained in me when I was little is: Everything in moderation," Johnson told Yahoo! Health.
