Two-time Oscar nominee and prolific actor Will Smith revealed his plans to go beyond his craft as he considers entering the political arena "in the near future."

Speaking for The Hollywood Reporter's "Awards Chatter" podcast, "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" actor said he may take on a new direction for his career and expressed a hint of interest for politics because some "might need" him to serve the public.

"As I look at the political landscape, I think that there might be a future out there for me," Smith told the podcast series. "They might need me out there."

After more than 20 years of being one of the bankable actors in Hollywood, the 47-year-old actor said that he thinks he has done well and enough for the industry that has kept him for more than two decades.

Aside from flourishing his acting career, Smith has also built himself a name in the music industry. What more could he ever add under his belt aside from being an actor, producer, rapper and a songwriter? That's right, a title as a politician.

"At this point, I'm elevating my ability to be useful in the world," Jada Pinkett-Smith's husband said, adding that it has always been his grandmother's dream for him to be "useful to people" throughout his lifetime.

Explaining his consideration of entering politics, the actor said it's because he does not like hanging in one place too long. He added that he even felt a calling that people have been needing him somewhere else.

"This is the first year that I've been incensed to a level that I can't sleep, you know?" Smith said. "So I'm feeling that at some point, in the near future, I will have to lend my voice to the conversation in a somewhat different way."

While he expressed politicking plans in the near future, the actor has been keeping his eyes focused on his new film, "Concussion."

"Concussion" will revolve around the story of Dr. Bennet Omalu (Smith) who discovered a brain disease among football players. The actor added that his character is in a struggle to fulfill the American dream.

He said that his portrayal as a Nigerian forensic neuropathologist can be considered one of the "most emotionally complicated" reprisals he has done for his entire career. Also, a report from GQ Magazine said that this could finally earn the man an Academy award.

"As an actor, I was excited. But as a lover of football, I was conflicted. I was almost called to be an activist against myself," Smith added.

Aside from Smith, cast of "Concussion" includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Alec Baldwin, Luke Wilson, Stephen Moyer and Albert Brooks. The film will hit theaters on Christmas Day 2015.
