Legendary singer-songwriter Elton John and his 21-year partner David Furnish have announced their plans to get married in May. Furnish is a filmmaker who is best known for his documentary, Elton John: Tantrums & Tiaras.

The pair was previously united in a civil partnership approximately ten years ago. The lavish $2 million reception that took place in December of 1993 featured 650 star-studded guests at the couple's house in Windsor. Among the many people included on the guest list were Victoria Beckham, Ringo Starr, Elizabeth Hurley, Donatella Versace, Claudia Schiffer, David Walliams, and Sharon Stone, just to name a few.

This time around, the couple will be making the wedding a bit more low-key. According to Daily Mail, John and Furnish will only have their two sons Zachary and Elijah, along with a few other witnesses in attendance at the wedding. Furnish first broke the news to the Las Vegas Review Journal.

He said, "...With the kids, everything is different. I think what we'll do is go to a registry office in England in May, and take the boys with us, and a couple of witnesses."

Following the recent legalization of gay marriage in England and Wales on Saturday, John and Furnish made the announcement to celebrate the legislative news.

"We don't feel the need to take an extra step legally. But since we're committed for life, we feel it's really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation.

"We all live by example," said Furnish to the Las Vegas Review Journal.

He further commented on his struggle with coming out of the closet, "I remember trying to come out to my mother and unfortunately going to all the negatives. 'You'll never get married. You'll never have children. You'll never be accepted by society. You'll be prejudiced against. You won't have a future.'"

Today, Elton and David are seen as a power couple in the eyes of many gay partnerships still struggling with adversity. We congratulate the duo on their impending marriage and a continued long-lasting partnership!
