There have been several feature films that have been optioned for TV shows lately, and now "Rambo" has made that list.

According to Deadline, Sylvester Stallone will be executive producing the new series "Rambo: New Blood." There are also reports he will be starring in the series, but the main focus will be on the title character's son.

Although the son of John Rambo has never been featured in any of the four films in the franchise, he will be a grown man who is an ex-Navy Seal named J.R.

There have been several conflicting reports coming in that Stallone will be starring in the series, and even those reports have not detailed whether or not his character will be a primary cast member.

The original film, "First Blood," was based on a novel of the same name by David Morrell. The basic story was about a man who comes back from Vietnam and has a lot of trouble making his way in the world as a civilian. He is a former Green Beret and has been specially trained for many forms of combat and survival.

Those skills come in particularly handy to him when an overzealous town cop locks him up for being a drifter. He escapes, and the film (and book) takes shape around the manhunt for him deep in the mountain wilderness. Eventually, Rambo overcomes insurmountable odds and takes down the police force and military units that hunt him.

The film was an instant hit with fans and spawned three sequels to date. The most recent sequel came out in 2008 after a 20-year hiatus. That film was met with both critical and box-office success, creating more demand for content from the character.

There has been no word yet as to when production on the series will start or when it will premiere on Fox.
