Numbers from Last Drawing

Last Wednesday’s winning numbers were 2, 11, 47, 62, 63 and 17. There were regular 7,124,983 winners, and $65,947,617 in non-jackpot money was won.

There are nine ways to win at Powerball. There is a 1 in 292,201,338 chance of getting the grand prize, and a 1 in 11,688,053.52 in winning $1,000,000.

Although playing any lottery game is essentially all about chance, there are a few things one can do to increase the odds of winning.

Quick Picks Can Prove Advantageous

As ABC News reports, a Powerball player would do well to leave the number picking to the computer. Approximately 70 percent of past Powerball winners have won by using Quick Picks, a computer system that randomly generates numbers.

Richard Lustig, a lottery expert, explained that if you are a regular player with your own numbers then your best bet is to stick to the same sequence every time you play. Aside from this, Lustig advises players to buy as many tickets as possible. "The only advice I can really give people is buy as many tickets as you can afford," he said.

Some Numbers Luckier than Others

Apparently some numbers are actually luckier than others. An ABC News analysis of past Powerball winners shows that the numbers 8, 54, 14, 39 and 13 come up most often.

The possibility -- however remote -- of coming into $900 million has the world of social media abuzz with daydreams of quiting work.

Responding to the question "How would you quit your job if you won Powerball?" Tweeters joked about leaving their place of employment in a puff of smoke or rubbing in the news in by sending postcards to co-workers after disappearing from the workplace.

What Would You Do If You Won?

When asked what they would do with their Powerball winnings, most players say things like pay off bills, send the kids to college, or perhaps take a big vacation.

A young man interviewed by a Fox News reporter as he filled out his lucky numbers was brutally honest about his Powerball plans. Asked what he would spend his fortune on, he responded, "Bunch of hookers and cocaine."
