Sony has finally unveiled its new flagship devices, with the Sony Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact released in U.S. soil.

The latest devices from Sony can be purchased from leading retailers like Amazon and Best Buy off-contract and unlocked. With no carrier tie-ups to the new Sony flagships, the Xperia Z5 carries a suggested retail price of $599 while the Xperia Z5 Compact runs for about $499.

Despite being officially released in the U.S., the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact already started their roll out as early as October of last year in Europe. From there, the Sony gradually released the devices to other regions via Ubergizmo.

Such should be good news for U.S. buyers who expected Sony’s flagships to be out as early as February 7.

Among the common features that the devices carry include running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 32 GB of storage and a 23 MP main camera.

The Xperia Z5 will tote a 5.2-inch display screen and 3 GB of RAM while the Xperia Z5 Compact offers a smaller 4.6-inch display screen and 2 GB of RAM.

Of the mentioned features, it is the 23 MP camera which should be interesting to check out. With a lot of people reliant on their phones to snap higher resolution images, the quality of captured shots should be something to look forward to.

An Exmore RS mobile image sensor should further hone expectations on the phone’s image-capturing abilities.

While those features seem impressive, the Sony Xperia line does have some notable and popular features out today that are absent.

That includes a fingerprint sensor which is normally integrated with a phone’s home/power button. With that said, it may likely seem odd at first though one has to wonder how the device will deal with Android 6.0 which comes with a native support for finger-based authentication.

The Xperia Z5 series come with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.

Regardless, that high-end feature should be a minor setback for now, as cited by Engadget. Besides, there are folks who are fine with the old school pin codes or patterns for the security of their phones.

According to PC Magazine, both devices will come with some freebies as well. That includes an offer to download three movies for free such as Sony Pictures' The Walk and Hotel Transylvania 2.

For those who are particular about the phone’s overall color scheme, the Xperia Z5 comes in black, white, gold and green. On the other hand, the Xperia Z5 Compact will be offered in black, white, coral and yellow.
