After more than a decade, the sequel of the famed action and comedy film "Bad Boys II" may happen after lead actor Will Smith announced it on his recent BBC Radio 1Xtra interview, Metro reports. According to the publication, Smith confirmed that "Bad Boys III" is on its way after the actor and rapper met with former "Bad Boys" co-star Martin Lawrence.

The two, who are famous for their roles as cops in Miami, might just grace the big screen once more after Smith confirmed the news in his radio interview with A.Dot. The actor reveals that after meeting up with Lawrence, he is convinced to finally do the film, the news agency reports.

"I saw Martin a few weeks ago. I haven't seen him in about two years. We looked at each other. We hugged. In that moment, we knew we were making another 'Bad Boys.' We're definitely doing another one," Smith said on the show as quoted by the news outlet.

The news comes after Lawrence revealed that a script for the third film of the gigantic movie franchise is in the works.

"I believe so. Yes. I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday and he said its real, they're working on the script, they're getting close and it all looks good," Lawrence previously told Conan O'Brien on his talk show as quoted by Metro back in 2014.

Martin even posted a throwback photo of him and Smith on Facebook as he remembered the 11th anniversary of the second film. The actor wrote the caption, "11 years ago today, Bad Boys II was released in theaters. Feelin' it's about time for number 3... what do you think Will Smith?"

However, after the news came out, no developments were reported before Smith's recently circulated radio interview.

Now, the most recent speculations involve the upcoming film's director, Cinema Blend reports. According to the publication, although it is definite that when a third "Bad Boys" happens, Lawrence and Smith will reprise their role, the director of the first two films Michael Bay might not.

Apparently, the news agency speculates that Joe Carnahan may direct the film for a fresh look on the franchise. Carnahan, known for his works in "The Grey" and "A-Team," might give a good interpretation as to how the movie will be shot.

The news outlet further speculates that a release date for "Bad Boys III" has been set and that will be on Feb. 17, 2017 but the date is still subject to confirmation.
