Showrunner Alex Gansa shared some details about “Homeland” in an interview and what to expect in the upcoming Season 6.

Gansa said that the writing team rarely changes the script during production to relate more with real-world events. He said that they shoot episodes months before the actual events and make a few minor adjustments, particularly in the dialogue to make it more relatable to recent cases, such as the Paris attack.

More of Carrie’s Bipolar Disorder

Gansa said that Carrie’s (Claire Danes) bipolar condition is always included in their discussions about the character. The showrunner shared that he was proud of Carrie in one episode where she decided not to take her medication to connect to her genius. They wanted each season to delve into her condition as well as integrate it into the overall plot.

For the writers, her bipolar condition is central to her character and is a major factor in her life decisions. Her disorder will always be something that they wish to return to each year. This means that fans will again see more of Carrie’s bipolar condition as Season 6 progresses in New York City.

Possibly More Jazz

As for Carrie’s love of jazz, Gansa admitted that they did put less focus on it. The music that they play over the main titles is actually intended to showcase how Carrie thinks about the world and the way her mind works. Gansa said that they moved away from music a lot in Season 5. Claire Danes did mention the possibility of bringing back jazz, so viewers might discover more music when Season 6 starts.

Danes, as a producer of the show, actually has some influence on how the series will end as well as the fate of her character. Gansa stated that the actress/producer knows her character better than anyone, so her input in the narrative is always given huge consideration.

Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham), black ops director of the C.I.A. may return in “Homeland” Season 6. His bond with Quinn (Rupert Friend) actually looks much like Saul (Mandy Patinkin) and Carrie’s relationship. Dar will deeply be affected by Quinn’s fate.

According to Gansa, “Homeland” will continue for at least two more seasons --  Season 6 and Season 7, which may delight longtime fans.

“Homeland” Season 6 will air some time in 2016 on Showtime. More updates and details are expected soon.
