Mexico and Uruguay face off in one of the most hotly anticipated Copa America 2016 Centenario matches of the group stage on Sunday.

The Match

Both teams enter as heavy favorites to make a deep run, but each have their own adversity to conquer.

For Uruguay, the loss of Luis Suarez is a tricky situation. The team will start the tournament without its dominant talisman, who finished with 59 goals for Barcelona this season. He should be back later in the tournament, but the team will need to step up in a big way to give him time to recover.

Mexico presents the biggest challenge in the group for the 2011 Champions as the two are likely contesting the top spot in Group C.

Mexico has firepower and has looked good in friendly games leading up to the big game. The problem is that the goaltending situation remains contentious. Coach Juan Osorio has his team riding a 10-game winning streak, but the goaltending has been a rotational situation between Jose Corona, Guillermo Ochoa and Alfredo Talavera. All of them are in their 30's and provide solid veteran presence in net. Ochoa is the youngest of the group but has also had minimal playing time since dominating at the World Cup in 2014.

The other big story to follow for Mexico is Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez. The Bayer Leverkusen star scored in the 1-0 win over Chile and is now three goals away from topping Jared Borgetti as Mexico's top scorer ever.

History

Mexico has the edge historically, winning seven of 19 from Uruguay, drawing seven and losing just five. Uruguay however has won the last two meetings between these sides.

Players to Watch

Without Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani will be the man to watch for Uruguay as he will need to be at his best against a solid Mexican side. On the other end of the pitch, you know that Chicharito is hungry for more goals as he closes in on Borgetti. He only needs three goals now and he is getting ever closer. He might not start but if he makes it out onto the pitch, he will be dominant.

Prediction

Both teams are poised for deep runs, but this once Mexico eases by Uruguay 2-1. Chicharito doesn't score however.
