Jamaica and Venezuela will face off in the Copa America Centenario Group C match on Sunday.

Venezuela looks to bounce back

Venezuela left the 2015 Copa America with its head held up high despite exiting in the first round. The team shocked Colombia after a sound defensive effort for 90 minutes before losing on a fluke against Peru. Brazil took it down early, but Venezuela countered well and nearly managed the tying goal that would have put it through to the second round of play.

But alas, it was not meant to be. But most people saw the Vinotinto as a team with a future.

Until the team faltered to open the World Cup qualifiers. Venezuela is currently the worst team in the CONMEBOL, sitting with just one point from six matches. There have been no victories, one draw, five defeats and 17 goals against across those 10 matches. Venezuela has conceded at least two goals in five of the six games and has allowed four goals on two separate occasions.

Jamaica could present a challenge

This match against Jamaica might offer a respite from the free-fall the team has endured in major competitions, but that might not be as easy as it seems. Jamaica, while not fancied to be a great team in this tournament, has had its solid moments against better sides, playing with pace and strength.

History favors South American side

Venezuela holds the edge historically against Jamaica winning three games, losing two and drawing once. Jamaica has won two of the last three however, including a friendly last year in March by the score of 2-1.

Player to Watch

Salomon Rondon is entering his prime and is Venezuela's most dangerous forward with 16 goals in 49 games for his national side. He is just seven goals away from tying all-time scorer Juan Arango who retired after last year's tournament.

Prediction

Venezuela wins 2-0.
