One of the hottest names in the offseason trade is Wade Davis. The Chicago Cubs have been eyeing the Kansas City Royals stopper as they have been thinking big in the 9th inning at the Winter Meetings.

The team was considering a range of relievers including A. J. Ramos, and Alex Colome, while Aroldis Chapman seems not to get another contract deal from Cubs.

Jon Morsi tweeted and stated, "Can Confirm #Cubs are among the teams to inquire on #Royals closer Wade Davis." He claimed that the Cubs had been one of the teams that are consistently reaching out to the Royals for their stopper, Wade Davis.

Cubs, the defending World Series champion, added Jon Jay as a center field option. Among the positions that require an upgrade is their closer. Since Chapman is a free agent and Hector Rondon is still the former closer on the roster, it may not be such a big deal to acquire another good reliever, according to CBS Sports.

The Royal are in a tight spot right now because most of their player are set to hit free agency for the next offseason so they can just trade some of their players and try rebuild again, or they going to choose and try to go all-in and try to win in 2017.

Davis is one of the players that will go as a free agent for the coming offseason. So in this case, he becomes available.

Many teams have been targeting Davis for being one of the best closers in the game. He finished the 2016 season with another 1.3 fWAR and sub-2.00 ERA (1.87) even though he had some troubles back then; he still managed to save 27 games.

Meanwhile, Chapman wants a six-year contract deal but unfortunately, but according to ABC, Cubs showed no interest in taking the deal and brought him back to the team. Chapman stated that he just wanted to express his desire to have a six years contract.

Chapman then further stated "I know that does not mean that I will get it, but that is what I would like to sign. Rumors are suggesting that I requested USD 100 million, and that is not true at all. I believe that if you deserve something, you do not ask for it."

Chapman does not have direct communication with the team right now, but he is expecting to hold meetings this week.
