Playstation 4 Pro owners are in for a surprise. The new console launched by Sony will soon receive an update that will reportedly result in the new consoles seeing an increase in performance thanks to "boost mode". The update is part of a firmware release v4.50 that was released yesterday. Alongside the boost mode, the PS4 Pro consoles will also now enjoy optimizations in virtual reality.

The recent update also helps in users communicating with others through 'voice chat' and will also display new icons to indicate when players are idling while their accounts are still logged in. The VR update seems to improve the 2D performance of games and will also let users make use of external hard drives for more storage, per reports from Polygon. The likely option of an external storage device would most likely help users to play games without worrying too much about storage.

Sony's official PlayStation blog stated that the boost mode will reportedly help legacy titles to utilize the PS4 Pro's faster CPU clock speeds thereby resulting in a fairly noticeable boost in frame rates whether at 30 or 60Hz. The blog also reports that it might even reduce loading times up to an extent, although that hasn't been confirmed by anyone yet.

Their proprietary apps for PS4 Pro like PS Messages and Communities app too will be updated as a part of the new firmware release. Text templates will be available for those who're not able to reply to someone in detail instantly. Among other things, PS4 Pro owners will also be able to check the activity of Playstation Network now directly on their phone applications. Remote Play feature can also be accessed by Xperia smartphone users.

The major upgrade for Playstation 4 Pro owners has to be the option of external storage. This is likely due to the size of latest titles being released into the markets and the client updates, in general, are also not very small in size. On the other hand, unless and until some benchmarks the console that takes advantage of the new update, nobody can get an insight into the benefits of the boost mode.
