It's official: The new cover art for Madden 15 has been released. The cover features Seattle Seahawk Cornerback Richard Sherman dropping back into coverage while monitoring the unseen play unfolding.

According to IGN, Amazon and GameStop released images of the cover art, but GameStop has since pulled the cover picture. Amazon is still displaying the cover art on its website.

Sherman was a huge contributing factor when the Seattle Seahawks dominated the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 48 earlier this year.

"Richard Sherman is a fantastic cover athlete selection by the fans," said Anthony Stevenson, Vice President of Global Marketing for EA SPORTS in a statement relased by the ESPN. "Defense is a big focus for Madden NFL 15 and Sherman is one of the brightest defensive stars in the NFL."

CBS Sports reported that Sherman had been in a dispute with EA Games and was trying to get his entire starting secondary -- nicknamed "Legion of Boom" -- on the cover and has encouraged fans to start a petition to convince EA to put the Seattle defense on the cover.

"I've been trying to get the 'Legion of Boom' on the cover, and EA has been fighting me," Sherman said earlier this month. "So if everybody wants to start a petition to get the Legion of Boom on the cover, here it is, here's an open invitation."

One of his fan, Jason Coiner, has started a petition on Change.org asking EA to feature the entire starting secondary on the cover. Coiner's petition now has 7,000 signatures.

"It's a team sport and he wanted to share that with the team," Coiner said on the Seahawks website. "That's an unselfish act and to me that needs to be pushed because not too many people are like that."

Sherman also stated that he isn't afraid of the "Madden Curse," a reference to several athletes that have been featured on Madden Covers that have had injuries or have showed performed poorly on the field after their cover appearance.

"I don't believe in curses," Sherman said. "I believe in God."

The game is set for its official release on Aug. 26, 2014. The game is available for pre-order now.
