Despite the circulating rumors about the cancellation of "Halo: Nightfall" due to the closing down of Xbox Entertainment Studios, the upcoming live-action mini-series based on the popular video game is still set to be released on Nov. 11, together with "Halo: The Master Chief Collection", Canada.com reports.

Mike Colter, known for his roles in "The Good Wife" and "Zero Dark Thirty," will be portraying the role of Jameson Locke of "Halo: Nightfall," which is said to connect the story of "Halo 5: Guardians" with its predecessor "Halo 4."

Agent Locke is a new character from the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) who is sent with his team to investigate terrorist activities on a colony in a distant land. He will be playing a pivotal role in both "Halo: Nightfall" and "Halo 5: Guardians," which will be released on Xbox One in 2015.

Despite not having a background in the "Halo" universe, Colter expressed his excitement and mentioned that the script was "incredibly gripping," Variety reports. He called the world of Nightfall intriguing and mysterious, also saying that he wanted to know more about it.

Given that he is an experienced actor, Colter still felt new to the whole thing because the character is based on a video game. He also described the shooting of some scenes in cold weather being another challenge in itself.

Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, known for "Battlestar Galactica" and "Falling Skies," will be directing "Nightfall" with a script written by Paul Scheuring of "Prison Break." Xbox also promoted its upcoming projects at Comic-Con San Diego on Thursday with an hour-long panel with 343's executive producer Kiki Wolfkill and the franchise development director Frank O'Connor.

"Nightfall" will enjoy a significant amount of freedom since it will not follow the plot of any specific Halo title or novel, but it will still be set in the Halo world, further expanding its universe.
