George Zimmerman, the infamous former Florida neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, has been working as security at a motorcycle and gun dealership in Deland, Florida.

When Zimmerman was spotted sitting in a truck outside of the dealership around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, he told police officers that he was providing night security because the business was recently burglarized. The 30-year-old Florida resident also told police that he got permission to be there from DeLand mayoral candidate Pat Johnson, who is the owner of the business, Pompano Pat's.

A July 27 DeLand Police Department report states that Zimmerman was spotted in a dark-colored truck behind Pompano Pat's.

"Dispatch informed me that the vehicle was registered to George Zimmerman out of Sanford," the police report reads, according to Fox News. "Zimmerman informed me that he was sitting behind the business with the permission of the owner, Pat Johnson. Zimmerman stated that he had been friends with Johnson for a period of time and was watching the business due to a recent burglary."

The report also says that Zimmerman was "very cooperative" with law enforcement officers.

Zimmerman was not arrested, but the owner of the shop could not be reached to confirm his claims.

"He said he had permission from Pat Johnson to do night security but our officers could not make contact with Pat Johnson to verify that so we did an information report," Sgt. Chris Estes said, reports the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

However, a manager at Pompano Pat's denied that Zimmerman is an employee or being paid for his services.

"George is not being paid as a security guard by Pompano Pat's," Porter said. "He and Mr. Johnson are just friends," Sam Porter told Fox News.

It was not immediately revealed whether or not Zimmerman could continue his self-professed security gig.
