On Aug. 11 it was announced that access to Electronic Arts (EA) was already available for Xbox One through subscription. This means members can play new full versions of EA games five days before the games are released commercially. Even if it is only for a limited time, the game saves are carried over to the full games should you want to purchase the game, which is a plus.

There's more good news. The EA announcement also said the virtual currency, downloadable content and digital purchases of EA games for Xbox One would extend to a 10 percent discount for members of EA access.

EA access does not cost that much. It's only $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year. The subscription means the members have access to the EA Vault that has several big titles such as Peggle 2, Madden NFL 25, Battlefield 4 and FIFA 14 at no extra charge.

These games are not streamed but are downloadable. Currently available from the EA Vault for a limited time are Madden NFL 15, Dragon Age: Inquisition, NHL 15 and FIFA 15. And once these games have entered the EA Vault stay in the Vault. These are trial games, meaning full versions and not demos of the game.

If someone elects to subscribe to EA, even the release versions of EA games without demos are available for purchase with a 10 percent discount as long as the subscription lasts. You can also buy digital expansion packs for FIFA Ultimate Team and Battlefield.

At its launch, EA access is available in the following regions: the USA, UK, Spain, New Zealand, Mexico, Italy, Ireland, Germany, France, Canada, Austria and Australia. More regions will follow, according to EA, as they continue to roll out.

There were mixed reactions to the service, although EA said it will improve over time and will add more games to its Vault. When contacted for comments, Sony said that it passed on the offer of EA access because the company felt that there is not enough value to the access for gamers using PlayStation 4, according to Game Informer.
