Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III dislocated his left ankle during the first quarter of their 41-10 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Initial reports indicated that Griffin might be sidelined for the remainder of the season, but MRI results showed no fracture in his left ankle.

ESPN reported that the MRI results were sent to Dr. Robert Anderson to know the extent of the injury. But according to the initial assessment, Griffin III won't need surgery, which means that he could return this season.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said that Griffin will be in a cast for several weeks and will undergo rehab. But while they are still waiting for Anderson's assessment, Gruden is confident that Griffin will recover from the latest setback.

"It's just a bump in the road for him. It's another little bit of adversity he's going to have to overcome. And part of being a quarterback is your mental toughness and ability to overcome adversity, and he's done it in the past, he'll do it again and we have total faith that he'll bounce back and be as good as ever soon," Gruden said of Griffin via Fox Sports.

Griffin, who has completed 31-for-40 passes for 305 yards this season, is no stranger to setbacks after sustaining injuries in 2012, including a torn ACL in his right knee.

Without Griffin, backup quarterback Kirk Cousins will have a bigger responsibility in the upcoming weeks, and Gruden believes that they don't need to make major adjustments because Cousins is capable filling the void left by their star QB.

"We were trying not to make this about Robert when Robert was the quarterback," Gruden said. "We're going to try not to make this about Kirk now that Kirk's the quarterback. We've got to make this about the Redskins moving forward."

Cousins performed well against the Jaguars after Griffin sustained the injury, completing 22-for-33 passes for 250 yards. While he is expected to play a bigger role, the 26-year-old said the Redskins is still Cousins' team.

"This is Robert's team," Cousins said via Washington Post. "My job is to be the backup quarterback and, if called upon to come in and play, then I better play and help this team win. That job doesn't change. This is Robert's team."
