Things are getting more definite now, with "True Detective" Season 2 set to premiere in January 2015.

Based on what's been going around, "True Detective" will retain its anthology format, and there will be new main characters for each season as well as new plots. HBO has already announced that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will be playing the main leads for Season 2. It has also confirmed that "Fast and Furious" director Justin Lin will be directing the first two episodes of the second season of the hit show.

From the HBO press release, Farrell will be playing the role of compromised detective Ray Velcoro, and Vince Vaughn will be playing the role of Frank Semyon, a career criminal.

While the main male leads are now confirmed, the female lead role is still up for grabs, with several names still up in the air. Some of the names mentioned as heavy contenders for the role of California sheriff Ani Bezzerides are Elisabeth Moss, Rachel McAdams, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Biel, Malin Ackerman, Jaimie Alexander, Oona Chaplin, Brit Marling and Kelly Reilly.

Nic Pizzolatto has confirmed that there will be several directors for "True Detective" Season 2. He said that they have to do post productions while they are also filming new episodes, and therefore they want to work with several directors.

Various plot details have been given by Pizzolatto, although the main story plot will be focused on the investigation surrounding the brutal death of Ben Caspar, the corrupt city mayor who had ties with Frank Semyon.

While viewers were drawn to the pairing of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the first season, the show is probably hoping that the second season will draw huge audiences once again based the charisma of Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and possibly whoever will play the female lead character.

It's worth wondering whether this will revitalize the career of Vince Vaughn as much as it did to Matthew McConaughey. Nonetheless, the new season is totally different from the first season, and people are already curious as to how the new episodes will pan out.
