Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi did not appear at a charity fundraiser for rescued animals on Sunday due to a fight they had in the car, reports Page Six.

The couple was reportedly on the way to the Saving SPOT! fundraiser at Tiato, an Asian-inspired restaurant, bar and market in Santa Monica, when they began to argue. They reportedly turned around and went home without attending the event, though they were pictured and listed as hosts on the event invitation.

DeGeneres and de Rossi told Page Six on Monday that they had informed the charity they would be absent, and their picture should not have been on the invitation.

"The story is a complete lie," DeGeneres' attorney Marty Singer said. "My client told the organizer they never agreed nor planned to attend the event. There was no fight that caused them not to attend."

The charity didn't respond to Page Six's requests for comment.

"We were happy to lend our names as honorary chairs and the organization was always aware that we would be unable to attend. This is the first time we have seen our images attached to the invite. It was not approved and it is misleading," DeGeneres and de Rossi told E! News in a statement.

A source tells E! News that the morning of the event, DeGeneres' assistant had reminded the SPOT! pet shop owner the couple would not be attending.

Although they missed this year's Saving SPOT! fundraiser, the 56-year-old talk show host and the 41-year-old actress attended the same fundraiser last year in Los Angeles and helped host the live auction.

On Sept. 8, during her Season 12 premiere monologue, DeGeneres addressed divorce rumors and argument reports that went viral throughout the summer.

"I had a great summer," DeGeneres said. "I went on a trip with Portia, my beautiful wife."

The camera then panned to de Rossi who was seated in the audience.
