Actress Eva Mendes has finally broken her silence about her pregnancy and new daughter after keeping silent about her new baby with Ryan Gosling. She and Gosling welcomed baby Esmeralda Amada Gosling on Sept. 12 and is now revealing the meaning behind her name.

In an interview with Violet Grey's digital publication, The Violet Files, Mendes revealed she is "completely exhausted" as a new mother.

"I thought my wild nights were over but these are some of the wildest nights I've ever had," the 40-year-old actress said.

She is raising Esmeralda without a nanny, but isn't against the idea of having one, she told Violet Grey. "As far as a nanny or a night nurse, for me that part of being a mother at this early stage is the struggle of not being able to sleep and not knowing what I'm doing and really going through it with her and battling out those nights," Mendes said.

Currently, the couple are relying on their mothers and her siblings to "come over and really help me." The experience so far has taught her to appreciate her own mother even more.

"I cannot believe that by the time my mother was 24 she had three kids under the age of 4," she mused. "She was in Cuba and totally alone. So when it's the wee hours of the night and I'm feeling a bit insane, I think about her and realize that I have no right to complain about anything."

Mendes explained that the inspiration for the exotic-sounding name came from her and Gosling's love of the Esmeralda character from the Victor Hugo novel "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."

"It's a beautiful name," she said. "Her middle is Amada, which was my grandmother's name. It means 'beloved' in Spanish ... We were really excited about naming her."
