On Monday, Dec. 8, Golden Globe winning actor, Joaquin Pheonix led David Letterman and his audience members to believe that he was engaged to his yoga instructor, Us Weekly reports.

During his appearance on the "Late Show with David Letterman," Pheonix recalled meeting his alleged fiancee in her yoga class.

Pheonix explained that while attending his fiance's yoga class, she taught him a yoga exercise known as "harnessing the hog," and the two sparked a romance soon after.

"First we do these breathing exercises and I go, 'I can do this'...and then she says we are going to get in the first position -- the "harnessing of the hog,'" Phoenix explained.

He continued, "Before I can say, 'Who is the hog?' She grabs me -- and it's a compromising and vulnerable position - and she gets a strap and puts it [around me] and she's thrusting [against] me and I go, 'Oh, no! My back pain!' And she goes, 'No, that's your emotional back pain."

Phoenix then concluded the yoga story by telling Letterman that he feels his yoga instructor fiancee is "the one."

"I proposed to her and she said yes. If everything works out...so far, so good," he added.

Though Pheonix appeared believable and was very detailed in his tory about meeting his alleged fiance, the actor revealed a day after his "Late Show" interview that he had been lying about getting engaged, E! News reports.

On Tuesday morning Phoenix appeared on "Good Morning America" to confess that he had been lying.

Good Morning America later posted a tweet to confirm the actor's false engagement.

When asked why he chose to lie about getting engaged, Phoenix told GMA, " I think my life's so boring, and it seemed like something exciting to talk about, and I wanted the audience to like me."

Us Weekly reports that Phoenix's reps also spoke out to U.K.'s "The Independent," to explain that Phoenix's story was a "joke."

"Joaquin has an extraordinary and spontaneous sense of humor but it is not true," his rep added.
