In the new trailer for action movie "San Andreas," audiences get a glimpse at the adventure that ensues when star Dwayne Johnson goes against the whole world, literally. The first official trailer, released online, shows the unfurling disaster after a massive earthquake hits the U.S. west coast.

According to Sydney Morning Herald, the film was shot at the Village Roadshow studio lot on the Gold Coast of Australia earlier in 2014. "San Andreas'" $100 million budget allowed for filming throughout the area, with locations near Brisbane, Ipswich and the Lockyer Valley all replacing the California landscape on screen.

Johnson leads the cast as a former emergency services helicopter pilot who races toward rather than away from danger to find his estranged daughter after an enormous rupture breaks open the San Andreas fault line.

"Percy Jackson" actress Alexandra Daddario plays Johnson's daughter, while Carlo Gugino fills the role of Johnson's ex-wife. Singer and Aussie Kylie Minogue also has a key supporting role in the film.

The frantic feeling of the trailer shows the Sunshine State being swallowed up into the earth, with a striking wide shot of a humungous hole in the ground following the earthquake.

Second unit footage was shot in California, between Los Angeles and San Francisco, but the majority of filming took place Down Under.

The Gold Coast has been a recent hotspot for Hollywood filming locations. Angelina Jolie chose to film part of the war story "Unbroken" there, and the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" is currently in pre-production in the area.

Disaster movies seem to be a popular theme in action blockbusters. Sydney Morning Herald created a timeline of the latest film titles that feature its characters fighting against the natural elements; the lengthy list spans 41 years since the first major earthquake movie, aptly named "Earthquake," hit cinemas.

"San Andreas" is scheduled for theater release on May 29, 2015.
