Disney and Marvel execs must be smiling like superheroes who've defeated the bad guy, knowing that "Avengers 2: Age of Ultron" was welcomed with open arms overseas.

"Avengers: The Age of Ultron" exploded for a massive $201 million in its first weekend of release overseas, exceeding the original film's first weekend haul by 44 percent and breaking records along the way," according to The Wrap.

"Disney's Marvel sequel, which opens Friday in the U.S., debuted at No. 1 in all 44 territories in which it rolled out this weekend, roughly 55 percent of its eventual international run. South Korea was the leading market with $28.2 million, followed by the U.K. with $27.3 million."

Overseas, "Avengers" fans really wanted to get in on the action as if they were a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe themselves, but in IMAX style.

"The IMAX returns set a record for the largest non-China international opening of all-time with $10.4 million, an eye-popping $60,000 per-screen average," The Wrap reports. "IMAX also christened its first theater in Scandinavia, and did it with a bang. "Age of Ultron" opened The Vue's Copenhagen theater with a huge $170,000."

How did the first "Avengers" film do when it first hit the international box office?

"The first Avengers earned $185.1 million over its pre-US overseas debut three years ago in 39 foreign territories which represented a bigger piece of the worldwide pie," according to Forbes. "Like most of the Marvel debuts, the film held off the would-be biggies (China, America, and Japan) although Russia was included in the initial offering this time around."

"Avengers" favorite Robert Downey Jr. (aka Iron Man) more than helped carry his metallic and box office weight as "'Iron Man 3" set records by earning $198m in its first overseas weekend, Forbes adds, "which is now the 12th-biggest overseas debut on record."

Forbes calls the box office results "superb, but not any kind of record breaker" and pits it against other blockbusters to put things into perspective.

"It sits between 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn part II' ($199m) and 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' ($202m) as the tenth-biggest global debut of all time. In terms of comparative performances in respective territories, that's a 44% uptick from 'The Avengers.'"

"The Avengers: Age of Ultron" cast includes: Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johannsson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, with the additional support of Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, Stellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

"The team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision."
