Episode 2 of "The Whispers," "Hide and Seek," will have some characters very close to danger.

"While John Doe continues on his mysterious mission, Claire attempts to hold back his sketch from the other bureau offices while she investigates his identity on her own, Lena is aware and not too pleased that Wes has been speaking with Claire about a case, and Drill continues playing his dangerous game with Minx, Henry and Harper, on 'The Whispers,'" according to the official description of Episode 2.

Maybe some are still feeling the loss of "Lost," but the mystery and intrigue promised by ABC's new supernatural thriller series may be able to fill that void. On Monday night, viewers tuned in by the millions to get a look at what all the fuss was about, Variety reports.

The premiere episode was led in by "The Bachelorette" and may have improved that show's ratings by all the pre-season hype that it was getting prior to its premiere.

Overall, the premiere episode got 5.7 million viewers in the 10 p.m. hour. That was accompanied by a 1.5 rating and a 5 share in the key demo of adults 18 - 49.

Those are fairly good numbers for a summer series, which will eventually be promoted during airings of the NBA Finals. The Finals begin this Thursday with LeBron James headlining the series on yet another run to add a third playoff title to his collection.

"The Whispers" is a Steven Spielberg co-production, and it is loosely based on Ray Bradbury's "Zero Hour," which involves children speaking to an imaginary friend. It stars Lily Rabe ("American Horror Story") and Milo Ventimiglia ("Heroes," "Rock Balboa").

In the show, children are able to talk to this ominous imaginary friend who seems nice enough to reel them in, but the kids end up doing his murderous bidding, sometimes on their own parents. The first episode can be watched on the ABC website.

According to HitFix, the series is about kids who aren't quite all right. They take a murderous turn in only a way that people like Spielberg and Bradbury can accurately show you on television without alerting the network censors. The level of creepy and horror takes a new image in this show.

One thing that is apparent from the season trailer: this imaginary friend can talk to any child, and that includes the offspring of a U.S. President.

The show airs on Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
