The "sugar, spice and everything nice" trio of Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup as the "Powerpuff Girls" is returning to television.

As early as June 2014, Cartoon Network already revealed that a new version of the popular cartoon will be made for a 2016 launch.

“The original Powerpuff Girls was a franchise phenomenon for Cartoon Network, paving the way for a new generation of innovative storytellers and enthusiastic fans worldwide,” Rob Sorcher, chief content officer of Cartoon Network said in a statement. “We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice and Chemical X," he added.

After almost a year since the announcement, the network unveiled via Twitter, the new voice actors behind the well-loved superhero cartoon characters.

Actress Amanda Leighton will give life to Blossom while Kristen Li will be Bubbles. "My Name Is Vivienne" actress Natalie Palamides will be the one behind Buttercup and Tom Kenny will reportedly return to reprise his role as the voice of the Mayor and Narrator.

Since original creator Craig McCracken will not be back in the show, two veterans from the cable channel will take his place. Nick Jennings who did work on "Adventure Time" and "SpongeBob SquarePants" and Bob Boyle of "The Fairly Odd Parents" will be the ones in charge of the creative aspect of the show as executive producers.

"It has been wonderful to see this new show team bring such passion and positive creative spirit to this iconic property," said CN Chief Content Officer Rob Scorcher in another statement. "We know that fans of every age will appreciate this new take on saving the world before bedtime."

While a lot of people seemed excited for the return of the trio, former voice actor Tara Strong took to Twitter to voice out her disappointment over the news.

"I don't remember ordering a stab in the heart today," wrote the actress on her Twitter account.

The comment was based on the fact that she, along with former voice actresses E.G. Daily and Cathy Cavadini, were not approached to return to the show once more. She made the clarification in another tweet.

"I have NO ILL FEELINGS 4 the actresses in the new #ppg, We were just beyond hurt we were NEVER asked... every role I breathe life into I love," tweeted Strong.

The new Powerpuff Girls is set to return to Cartoon Network in 2016.
