J.K. Rowling announced a new play called "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" that fans thought was a prequel to the famous novel series.

The famous author took to Twitter to let people know that it is not a prequel despite reports saying that it is.

"Sadly, not a prequel. I thought I'd said that at some point. Anyway. Not a prequel," she tweeted.

Although Rowling did not write the play herself, she is confident in the team that created the story that will now be a part of the famous Potterverse.

"I've had countless offers to extend Harry's story over the years, but Jack, John and Sonia Friedman are a dream team! #CursedChild," she tweeted.

"It has been a huge pleasure to share with them (and soon, with you!) this untold part of Harry's story. #CursedChild," Rowling added.

The author continues to write stories about Harry Potter following the great success of the novel series of seven books.

Rowling has written the "Harry Potter" spin-off movie "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."

She partnered with Sony to launch her website Pottermore where she tells stories of unknown parts of "Harry Potter."

One example is how she gave a background story of Potter's mean aunt and uncle Vernon and Petunia Dursley, according to Wall Street Journal.

You would have to register on the website in order to find the interesting interactive stories she writes.

Rowling talked about how she came up with the names of the characters in her book.

"Vernon' is simply a name I never much cared for," she wrote. She also mentioned that she named the aunt Petunia because that was the name she always gave mean female characters in games she used to play with her sister.

"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" is set to come out next year in London.
