Millions of Harry Potter fans believe that author J.K. Rowling crafted the perfect fantasy novel series. Rowling, on the other hand, says she made one imperative mistake.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from the ending of the Harry Potter series.

Rowling recently sat down with Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in all eight Harry Potter movies, and revealed one big regret: Hermione and Ron Weasley should never have ended up together.

"I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment," Rowling admitted forWonderland magazine. "That's how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron."

Watson, who was serving as guest editor for Wonderland, agreed with Rowling's bold statement.

"I think there are fans out there who know that too and who wonder whether Ron would have really been able to make her happy," Watson added.

Ron and Hermione are revealed to be married in the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

"I know, I'm sorry," Rowling continued, "I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I'm absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people's hearts by saying this? I hope not."

The epilogue also reveals that Ron and Hermione end up having two kids together -- Rose and Hugo -- but Rowling says that Ron and Hermione would have needed "relationship counseling."

The Sunday Times previewed the shocking Wonderland article, whose headline reads "JK admits Hermoine should have wed Harry." The article will be printed in its entirety in the future, but fans are already in frenzy.

"Guys, this is the closest we'll get to JK Rowling admitting that epilosgue was total rubbish. Cherish it," Will Kostakis said via Twitter.

"'Rowling says that she should have put Hermoine and [Harry] together in the Harry Potter series instead of Hermoine and Ron.' OMG WHY DIDNT U," taenboxers tweeted.

"A total load of crap...#teamron," Dorie Turner Nolt argued via Twitter.

"The real JK's probably locked in a cupboard somewhere with a bad concussion," Amy Bell tweeted.
