It was no surprise when Samsung updated its Galaxy S series phone to the Galaxy S6 that it would be a top of the line smartphone. But, when OnePlus, a company many have never heard of, updated its successful OnePlus One device to the OnePlus 2, a head-to-head battle was created.

Samsung decided to create a more premium feel for the Galaxy S6, according to Tech Radar. This means that the smartphone has a glass back and a metal frame around the edges.

OnePlus upgraded the feel of their new phone too. The OnePlus 2 has a metal frame and a plastic back now. However, the plastic back can be swapped out for a rosewood, bamboo or Kevlar backing.

Samsung created an excellent screen for the Galaxy S6. The 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen displays a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560, which is a Quad-HD resolution. The result of this screen is an impressive 577 pixels per inch (ppi).

OnePlus has the bigger screen on the OnePlus 2, with a 5.5-inch display. This is the same display that the OnePlus One used, except its resolution is only 1080p. The display comes in at 401 ppi.

Samsung recently decided to stop using Qualcomm processors and is instead using its own Exynos processors. For the Galaxy S6, Samsung is using the Exynos 7420 processor. This processor is an octa-core design that actually uses two quad-core processors working together, the Cortex A53 (1.5 GHz) and the Cortex A57 (2.1 GHz).

The OnePlus 2 uses a recent processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 810. This octa-core processor will come paired with either 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM. The 4 GB of RAM will come with the 64 GB model.

The Galaxy S6 uses a 16 megapixel (MP) camera. It is also equipped with image stabilization, autofocus, LED flash and many other features.

The OnePlus 2 uses the same 13 MP camera that the OnePlus One uses. Like the Galaxy S6, it includes image stabilization. It adds the laser autofocus and dual-LED flash as well.

The Galaxy S6 comes with a small battery that has been considered one of its drawbacks. The 2,550 mAh battery can lead to shortened battery life depending on the tasks that the phone is performing. To combat the small battery, Samsung offers a fast charging option to help recharge the phone when it runs low.

The OnePlus 2 upped its battery from 3,100 mAh to 3,300 mAh. With the screen resolution being less than the Galaxy S6, the OnePlus 2 should have the much longer battery.

The big difference between the two devices is pricing and availability. The OnePlus 2 is extremely affordable, starting at $329 for the 16 GB version and $389 for the 64 GB model. The Samsung Galaxy S6 is much more expensive starting at $570 for the 32 GB model, $895 for the 64 GB model and $1,269 for the 128 GB model.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is easy to purchase, with worldwide availability at a variety of stores and websites. The OnePlus 2 is using an invite-only system for its initial sales of the device.

Many of the advantages go to the OnePlus 2, aside from the screen resolution. With a much cheaper price tag, the OnePlus 2 has very similar specs to the Samsung Galaxy S6.
