AT&T subscribed owners of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 can now update their devices to the latest Android Lollipop upgrade from Google. AT&T has finally released the 5.1 Lollipop update to the handheld tablet.

The update is 926MB in size so it's important that users clear up enough space in the system to accommodate the upgrade, advised GSM Arena. It can be downloaded over Wi-Fi and will probably need at least 50 percent of battery life to complete the process.

The new system update notification will be seen in the device in the next coming days. Users can also manually check the system settings of their units to see if it can be downloaded already.

Once installed, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 will be running on build number LMY47X.T537AUCU1BOG5.

For those not familiar with the update, installing Android 5.1.1 to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 will improve the device's notifications and alarm settings, provide better and more animations, enhance Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features and include additional security settings, reported Android Police.

Apps that were previously loaded to the device such as Famigo, WatchON and Beats Music will be removed once the system is updated. Apple bought Beats Music and is now called Apple Music.

According to Android Headline, screen pinning will also be available to the device and it's a good privacy feature. If someone borrows the device to access an app for example, all the owner needs to do is to pin it to the screen, limiting what the borrower can see.

It seems that the update is a bit long overdue since some Tab 4 10.1 units have been running on Android 5.0 Lollipop since May, GSM Arena noted. However, the earlier version of the OS was only made accessible to units that were sold unlocked from any network, regardless if it was LTE-capable or Wi-Fi only.

While the update arrived late for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 locked versions, AT&T seemed to make up for that long wait with the announcement that the version released for its subscribers is the Android 5.1.1 version. It is the latest iteration of the OS from Google.

AT&T made the leap from the Android 4.4.2 KitKat straight to the 5.1.1 Lollipop and has saved many of its subscribers from the issues and problems that faced many when they installed the 5.0 Lollipop version.
