In a market that is already saturated with upcoming "Robin Hood" projects on the table, Lionsgate is looking to be the first one to release an "Origin" film on the legendary tale.

The production studio has already started filling out its production crew and cast for the project, according to Deadline.

There are four major studios looking to cash in on the story for a movie in each production house. Disney has one of its own in production called "Nottingham & Hood." Sony and Warner Bros. also each have a film in the planning stages that will stand against the competition. But the loaded market will get someone to the gate first and Lionsgate is hedging its bet on being the first out.

The "Origin" story is supposed to go back to the beginning of the legend and starts with Robin just coming home from the Crusades to find his beloved Sherwood Forest plagued with rampant corruption. The evil entities that have taken over the land will soon take notice of the young rebel who forms a band of men to take on the ultimate authority that has risen.

This is not the first time there has been a "Race of the Robin Hoods" by studios. Back in 1991, the Kevin Costner "Robin Hood" film went up against the Patrick Bergin film and mostly won the audiences over at the time. Of course, that might have had something to do with the hit song that came out of the movie by Bryan Adams.

Under consideration for starring roles in the film are British actors Taron Egerton, Jack Huston and Jack Reynor. Although there have been rumors that the three might have scheduling conflicts, the studio will find some way to begin production in the first quarter of 2016. Timing is, of course, the most important factor here, given the movie is vying for market share against three other major studios.
