NFL draft prospect Michael Sam is close to becoming the first openly gay NFL player.

The defensive end out of the University of Missouri is expected to be hear his name at the NFL Draft and he will be quite comfortable being who he is after coming out publicly on Sunday.

Although Sam is just coming out to the world right now, he was already an openly gay person. He was out to the people surrounding him and his college teammates knew last season.

The responses on social media have been positive for the most part but there were also a number of people who would have been better off if they just avoided the social media altogether. An example of this was Drayton Florence (@DraytonFlorence) who said "No comment" on Twitter and followed by saying "it can be a distraction in the locker room."

Most people, on the other hand, don't buy into the "distraction" stuff at all, such as outspoken wide receiver Donté Stallworth. He went on a very well-spoken Twitter rant and squashed the silly myth that there could be a distraction just because Michael Sam is openly gay.

"The leaders of an NFL organization AND the locker room better be able to handle adversity that is certain to emerge during a long NFL season," he said during the series of tweets. "In my experience, if your organization can't "handle media coverage", they will suck on the field anyway."

Other stars such as Chad OchoCinco -- or Chad Johnson -- made sure to point out that Michael Sam's coming out could mean a drop in draft stock, although none of this can be known right away. If anything, a number of team executives have expressed support for Sam.

"That took some courage but man his draft stock is going to plummet even though it should be based on production and how he can contribute‼"
