Michelle Pfeiffer is joining the set of the much-anticipated HBO movie, "Wizard of Lies."

The "Batman Returns" star, known for her sultry Catwoman role in the 1992 superhero film, will portray Ruth Madoff, the wife of Robert De Niro's character, Bernie Madoff, according to Entertainment Weekly. De Niro will take on the lead role of a Wall Street financial guru linked to a multi-billion dollar Ponzi scheme.

A welcome return

The "Scarface" actress is gracing the small screen once more after years of hiatus.

She joined the TV series like "Delta House" (1979) and "B.A.D. Cats" (1980) and only appeared lately, as a guest star, in "Great Performance" (1987) and "Picket Fences" (1995, uncredited). Aside from the iconic character in the catsuit, she also appeared in critically acclaimed films "Love Field" (1992), "The Fabulous Baker Boys" (1989), and "Dangerous Liaisons" (1988), where she earned Best Actress nominations from the Academy Awards.

It will be exciting for Pfeiffer's fans to see her in her element again. For her part, the actress already knew why she is cut for acting, and she shared her thoughts in an August 1988 issue of Interview Magazine.

"There are movies that I have done, people that I've worked with, performances I've given that make me say, 'That's why I'm doing this.' There are certain scenes you do in a movie that are like catching a wave, and you leave work feeling elated -- almost as though you've purged something. That's rare, but you do live for those moments," Pfeiffer said.

An exciting tandem

It will also give viewers another interesting look on the team-up between Pfeiffer and De Niro since both already starred in the Mafia-inspired film "The Family" in 2013.

"Wizard of Lies," based on the book with the same title by Diana Henriques and also inspired from Laurie Sandell's "Truth and Consequences," will be produced by the Academy Award-winning actor himself and Jane Rosenthal under his own company, the Tribeca Productions, noted an earlier article of the Entertainment Weekly. Barry Levinson will direct the movie and also serve as an executive producer. The writers for the project are reported to be Sam Levinson and John Burnham Schwartz. The film's release date has not been announced yet.
