Chris Brown is reportedly extending his stay in rehab, as he announces the release date of his highly anticipated upcoming album, X.

In October, the "Fine China" singer was accused of assaulting Parker Adams, who is suing Brown and one of his bodyguards for $3 million. The incident evidently violated his preexisting probation, which stemmed from another violent assault on his former girlfriend Rihanna back in 2009.

Chris Brown then voluntarily checked himself into rehab in Malibu, Calif. in October, however he was kicked out after throwing a rock at his mother's car window. Consequently, he was ordered to seek anger management at a different facility, instead of being sentenced to jail.

Although the 24-year-old R&B singer recently completed his court-ordered term of 90 days treatment for anger management issues, it has been reported that he has decided to prolong his stay. "It was his choice," a source close to Brown claimed. "He will come out soon."

In the meantime, the hitmaker took Twitter to announce the release date of his new album. "X is by far my best album yet... Setting the date for MAY 5," he tweeted. He also shared a black and white artwork of the record.

Chris Brown has been granted permission to leave rehab to attend several events recently, including a celebration to honor his work with L.A. community group 2nd Call over the weekend. A source said he stayed for more than two hours, appeared to be in "good spirits" and greeted friendly people who came to his table.
