While "Fifty Shades Darker" is currently is pre-production "Fifty Shades of Grey" director Sam Taylor-Johnson has yet to find her next project.

After having left the sequel the director has yet to choose what she wants to do next because her husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson is shooting Tom Ford's new film. Taylor-Johnson told the Hollywood Reporter, "Aaron and I have a rule that we don't work at the same time, and he's shooting Tom Ford's 'Nocturnal Animals.' While he's on night shoots in the desert, I'm home with the kids. He'll finish in a couple of months and we'll see."

Taylor-Johnson directed the second-highest-grossing film by a female director in 2015 as it made well over $150 million domestically, which was a bit lower than Elizabeth Banks' "Pitch Perfect 2."

Taylor-Johnson chose to leave the franchise as she had issues with E.L. James and was not interested in directing the sequel. The film was also criticized for its safe treatment of the sex scenes as well as the overall script.

While there were no reported incidents on the film, James is taking more control of the adaptations of her books as her husband will adapt the next two books as opposed to Kelly Marcel, who wrote the script to the first film.

James Foley is also replacing Taylor-Johnson as the director. Universal is slated to release the next film in 2017 and the third film in 2018. Casting has yet to begin but Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are slated to reprise their roles.

Taylor-Johnson made her directing debut with "Nowhere Boy," which was nominated for a BAFTA award. The film starred her husband and followed the life of John Lennon and the creation of the Beatles. While it was not a major success, it was critical hit. She followed it up with "Fifty Shades of Grey."
