Alcatel has just announced an all-new U.S.-exclusive Android smartphone called the Alcatel Fierce XL.

The handset may be an entry-level device but it comes with rather decent features, all for the asking price of $139.

According to Alcatel's official press release, the Fierce XL has a 5.5-inch 720 x 1280 HD IPS display and is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 210 processor clocked at 1.1 GHz. Memory-wise, there's 2GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB via the micro-SD slot. It is equipped with a 2,500 mAh battery that will last 360 hours if idle and 12 hours when heavily used for calls and texts.

The handset's eight-megapixel rear-facing camera comes with a Polaroid mode that lets users easily apply filters and layouts to images. It can also add extra information such as locations, dates and text tags. Its two-megapixel front-facing unit may not be too impressive, but it isn't too worse for wear either.

The Fierce XL supports Wi-Fi calling, HD voice support, VoLTE and 4G LTE Cat 4 at 150 Mbps.

"LTE Category 4 (CAT4) is the next step in 4G LTE device capability. CAT4 rated devices are capable of achieving better typical speeds in 4G coverage areas where the network is enabled with 20MHz of contiguous spectrum," said a device user on Telstra.

Prior rumors indicated that the Fierce XL would be offered in Android and Windows 10 Mobile, but as of the moment, Alcatel only listed the handset as running on Android version 5.1.1. The build could be updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but there was no confirmation if it eventually will.

The Fierce XL will be available at MetroPCS, starting Nov. 2 and then at T-Mobile during the winter time.

Those in search of a higher-ended Alcatel offering should check out the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3. The mid-range Android device surprisingly did well in the mobile market when it debuted earlier this year.

Now, Cricket Wireless has announced that it will be offering the handset starting Nov. 6 for only $150, $50 less than its original price tag. The handset sports a 5.5-inch1080 x 1920 Full HD display packed in a sleek and lightweight frame, The Verge reports.

The AT&T subsidiary also said it is currently expanding its international plans. The prepaid wireless provider is adding free data access from Mexico and Canada for customers who subscribed and will subscribe to its $50 and $60 monthly plans, to keep up with similar deals from Sprint and T-Mobile.
