Sam Smith talked about his experience meeting England's royal family and his plan to take time off on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

The 23-year-old British singer shared his humorous story of when he bowed a little too dramatically while meeting the royal family, according to Billboard.

"My issue is that I watch too much Downtown Abbey," said Smith. "You get instructions, they say you've got to bow with one arm behind your back. If someone tells you to bow -- I properly went for it!"

Fallon proceeded to show a photo of Smith bowing extremely low while meeting Prince William, who appeared a bit perplexed by Smith's pose.

The singer also brought up his plans to take time off, which he hopes will improve his songwriting and may lead him to find a new love interest.

"All my music is so insanely personal that I need to step away from everything, date a little bit and see my family ... so I can be inspired to write some more music," Smith said.

The singer is gearing up for his upcoming guest appearance with Disclosure on "Saturday Night Live" on Nov. 14. The group will also bring along Lorde to perform on the show, which will be hosted by Elizabeth Banks.

Smith recently released the deluxe edition of his 2014 album "In the Lonely Hour." The release titled "In The Lonely Hour: The Drowning Shadows Edition" was released on Friday, Nov. 6 and features the new track "Drowning Shadows." In addition the album includes covers of Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know" and Amy Winehouse's "Love Is a Losing Game," along with his collaborations with Dislcosure and Mary J. Blige.

The original "In The Lonely Hour" album was released May 26, 2014, and produced several singles, including "Lay Me Down" and "Stay with Me."
